Putting the Cart before the Horse.

The 'Vth Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge' is well underway, with a staggering amount of high quality entries already posted, yet tours truly is somewhat left tying his shoelaces in the starting blocks!  As we come to the end of a particularly long and busy term there is always much to do and I am afraid that this will need to remain my focus for a little longer.  That's not to say that progress hasn't been made here at 'Awdry Towers'.  The airbrush has had its maiden run over the weekend and worked a treat with the first of the themed rounds all but complete, now I need to decide what to start from  my eclectic selection of primed goodies!  So without a challenge post to share, I though I would offer up this little piece of resin as a stopgap.

This rather lovely piece of sculpting is from 'Fenris Games' and can be found in their vehicles section entitled 'The Lazy Wagon'.  It struck me that it would prove to be a nice little bit of tabletop clutter for my 'Witchfinder General' project and so snapped one up at this year's 'Salute'.  Simple enough to put together, but I wanted to add just a little more in the shape of a load of hay.  Designed to be removed, the the Lazy Wagon retains its versatility, but sadly can't be counted towards my challenge total as completed outside the agreed timeframe.

  4. Lovely work Michael. Will your next piece for the back be a scantily clad lass tumbling out from the hay?

    1. It really is lovely, but Warbases do something similar for half the price - still they don't have as much detail in theirs, so you pay your money and makes your choice.

  8. Another fine piece, Michael. Great how you have the hay/straw removable. It would work well in many scenarios - Witchfinder General not the least, of course.

  9. I see you have bought straw for the witch burning. Good job old man dry straw will burn readily.

Excellent work mate. Multi uses and periods and more fuel for the fire. Now get something done for the painting challenge.

    1. Thank you Clint and I'm trying, but work keeps getting in the way! I should certainly hit the first theme round on time, but only with a single figure.

  20. Fantastic work - I love the aged, well-used look of the wood.

As an aside, I've just recently returned to miniature painting after a couple years' absence from the hobby, and am really happy to have discovered some excellent blogs, yours most especially! I've been combing through the archives and enjoying every post on my lunch breaks at work.

    1. Thank you Bill and thank you also for your very kind comments, that is very kind of you. Are you charting your return to the hobby with a blog? I only ask as I can't seem to see anything when I click on your profile.

    2. I am, I'm charting my work at http://dice-and-doubloons.blogspot.com/ -- it started out as a roleplaying blog, but since that wasn't helping my anxiety issues the way painting does, it's begun to transition over.

    3. Excellent, that cthulhu model is a beast! Bill have you thought about adding a followers gadget? There are a couple available, but the one I favour is at the bottom of page 2 of the 'more gadgets' page. I find this invaluable for keeping track of what other people are up to, and I definitely don't want to miss have you paint up the beasty!

    4. Thanks Michael! I've been trying to add a followers gadget but I can't seem to find one. Even checking the second page of 'more gadgets' I'm not seeing it. Maybe it's a factor of the template I'm using?

    5. That's a blow Bill, I can't see any reason why your template wouldn't support the gadget as you already have some running. Just checking the list again, I can see it there at the bottom of the page. Layout panel, 'add a gadget', 'more gadgets' tab, 'Followers' - bottom of the page. Good luck!
