Mounted Camel Corps Command

Just the briefest of posts to 'show off' part of my latest entry for the '3rd Annual Painting Challenge'; the Mounted Camel Corps Command group of from the lovely 'Perry Miniatures' Sudan range.

What I've loved about the Painting Challenge is that it has got me painting bits and pieces that have been sitting around for an age; these were in fact part of two sets that I picked up at 'Salute 2011' for goodness sake!  I managed to get the one of the sets started back in May 2011, but was only brought to a conclusion in July last year as can be seen here; so to finally get the second set off the painting table is a bit of a relief!

I have to confess that I was really leased with the way the camels came out and even more so when I saw them in conjunction with the earlier set - the makings of a proper force, no less.  Now we just have to wait for the 'Saintly Mrs. Awdry' to name them!

  7. Those camels do look excellent. Very subtle changes in colour transitions really make them look alive. I also like the muted reds you used on the blankets. Great poses on these figures as well.

  9. Another outstanding paintjob, those camels look quite cute (unlike some of the dirty great big spitting brutes I've encountered in the past). Will be very eyecatching on the tabletop.

    Regards,
    Matt

    1. Strangely cute; I think hat is why the SMA keeps wanting to name them.

  10. Michael, these are beautiful. When you war game them do you "fight" them as is mounted, or have dismounted replacements?

    1. Thank you so much Scott, I was quite upset to find out that they unit fought as infantry, the camel were purely to get them from A-B!

  12. These are superb Michael. As many have noted, the camels are exceptional.

I've just started reading a good book on the Sudan, 'Khartoum: the ultimate imperial adventure' by Michael Asher. I've only devoured a few chapters but really enjoying it.

  17. Lovely figures. Plus your current read "Flashman at the Charge" is, in my opinion, the best of the lot. The border guards comments at the Pass in the final chapter is classic!

  29. Your camels will be the new bench mark by which all other camels shall be measured...stunning work that man. You've got the flesh tones on those troopers spot on as well. It doesnt get any better than that.

  30. Gosh, Michael, I don't know how I missed this post the other day. Wow - spectacular looking figures. You should be very pleased with the camels - as well as the riders and basing. I've yet to paint up a camel, but these are surely impressive and a great study. Best, Dean
