Forged in the heat of the most fearsome of battles true warriors emerge. Men and creatures that command the respect of those around them, talismans with the ability to lead teams from the brink of destruction to triumph against all the odds, legends bestowed with arcane knowledge and experience – and then there was Coach Awdry!
Although I’ve only played a couple of games of Blood Bowl, I was keen to find a suitable miniature to represent Coach Awdry, screaming his team plays from the side lines and constantly wondering why he picked the lumbering Kroxigor that was once again heading the wrong way up the pitch – for the love of Lustria! Fortunately for me the 'Comixininos' site had a couple of suggestions and so it wasn’t long before I was the proud owner of a Saurav Geet from the Hell Dorado universe.
I had toyed with the idea of simply putting him together and slapping a bit of paint on, but it just felt that a little something else was needed to sell this as a Blood Bowl coach. To that end I carefully removed the fearsome looking dagger and in its place a clipboard was added. I imagined him frantically waving and screaming at his players who, once again, had misunderstood the play! I’m afraid these photographs, taken at night under artificial light and have washed the colours out a bit, but you should be able to see the wonderful details on this model – far too good for me. That said I loved the idea that he was wearing the remnants of some rusty old body armour and a tattered cloak giving him that ‘all the gear, but no idea’ look*
Finally with the addition of the ball at his feet** Coach Awdry is ready to lead his team out onto the field of battle, provided of course he can persuade them to follow him!
*This sums up my Blood Bowl experience to date!
**This can be removed for game play.
Lol, genius!
ReplyDeleteYou're too kind. ;)
DeleteHe reminds me of my old sports teacher, in looks and mentality!
ReplyDeleteI certainly had one of those too, foaming at the mouth and incandescent with rage.
Deletevery nice mate
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Deletewith such a coach i would be afraid to make mistakes!
ReplyDeletegreat job.
bye
He doesn't look too forgiving does he? Thank you Luca.
DeleteThsi is a coach where you don't go in discussion with him! Excellent work Michael!
ReplyDeletePS: Liked your Zomtober contrubitions to! Very scary!
Greetings
Peter
Thank you Peter, you would certainly want to think twice before answering him back.
DeleteGreat conversion on him! The tactics look rather too complicated for a bunch of lizards though. You sure are demanding of your players. I'd imagine straight lines and running through everything would suffice :)
ReplyDeleteThank you and I think you're right about the tactics - probably why his screaming. ;)
Delete:D top stuff, once again ... will there be an unbiased (Lizard) referee?
ReplyDeleteNow there's an idea Roy, but it will probably have to wait for the time being.
DeleteGreat conversion work, advanced and subtle tactics to come ...
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, hopeful that the Coach will see his team on the field of play in the New Year.
DeleteNice work on the clipboard! The play on it looks like a guaranteed touchdown to me!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, but knowing my luck those lizards will drop the ball.
DeleteAhh the notorius "eu raedasaurus" venting his spleen in rage. He's a great animated figure worthy of the care and attention you've given him - he's got to be my favourite "dino".
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Joe, that's really kind of you to say so.
DeleteWhat a wonderful coach for your team. Lovely painting Michael :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tamisn.
DeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteThank you Mike.
DeleteDamn attractive fellow!
ReplyDeleteA spitting image of my good self. ;)
DeleteFinely done, Michael.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan.
DeleteJust lovely. I think he'll do it's best to spur on his team.
ReplyDeleteThank you, he certainly looks up for the job.
DeleteI used to love Bloodbowl back in the day. That's a cracking conversion sir - bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you J.P. I'm hoping to have another game or two before long.
DeleteGreat work Michael! The clipboard puts it over the top. Awdry the apoplectic is born.
ReplyDeleteThe group shot makes a gruesome trio indeed.
Thank you Bob, that is very kind of you.
DeleteAmazing work, Michael. Love the clipboard addition!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dean.
DeleteIf this is your alter ego, I fear for the life of the Sainted Mrs. Awdry :0)
ReplyDeleteWell done sir!
I think she will be ok, she knows exactly how to put me back in my box! ;)
DeleteNice PR picture, Coach. Your white teeth sparkle like polished ivory.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jay, but they had to do bit of work in post production! ;)
DeleteLove him, look a bit like Coach Cower when something went wrong LOL
ReplyDeleteIan
Thank you Ian and when I play everything goes wrong!
DeleteI like him but not a patch on the real M Awdry. I love the colours and the contrast play with the colours. Top work there
ReplyDeleteThank your so much Pete, kind words indeed.
DeleteHola
ReplyDeleteMagnifico
Grandes piezas
un saludo
I'm glad you like him J.D.
DeleteTop work Sir M. you'd certainly do as you're told if he asked!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray, those pesky Skinks need to beware of defying the boss!
DeleteFantastic Michael he looks superb!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much simon.
DeleteNot good enough. You know why? He needs a sheepskin coat.
ReplyDeleteJoking aside, lovely mini and a cracking paint job.
Now that's a genius idea! I wish I'd thought of that.
DeleteI think his players try very hard not to disappoint.....Gulp! Well done!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thank you Christopher, I understand that his bark is worse than his bite.
DeleteThe clipboard gives him the coach feel wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThank you Robert.
DeleteThat made me laugh out loud mate. I can only imagine what his half-time team talk must be like! Absolutely brilliant. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Millsy, given his rising blood pressure I'm not sure that he will get to half time!
DeleteSuper job Michael very characterful, love the clipboard idea :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Scott, it seemed like sacrilege at the time given the quality of the miniature, but it has come good in the end.
DeleteHah, brilliant! Lizard with a clipboard
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, not sure who's writing the plays though?
DeleteReal nice work on that lizard...super paint job
ReplyDeleteThank you Captain, that's very kind of you Sir.
DeleteI hear coach Awdry once benched his starting quarterback by hitting him over the head with an actual bench.
ReplyDeleteTop drawer stuff, as always.
Thank you Mr. Finch; I'd heard a similar story - all rage and not enough reason!
DeleteVery very nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Rodger.
DeleteExcellent addition for your sideline !
ReplyDeleteWell done, Sir.
Thank you Stefan.
DeleteAll i can say is.... Great work.
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you Sir.
DeleteFantastic as always Michael - half the fun of blood bowl is getting your figures done and building the personality of them through the games.
ReplyDeleteBTW if you haven't got a Krox for your team yet you might want to consider the "Kartikeya" from the Heldorado range, which I found a pic of here:

Thank you Paul and what a great model - I'd forgotten about him.
DeleteYou don't let up at all! More inspired painting. The mod with the clipboard is brilliant, as is your brushwork.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Monty, although I'm not sure how many more I can get finished before the end of the month.
