A Brace of Protoceratops.

Just the briefest of posts as proof of life!  As is often the way, even with the best laid plans, real life has a habit of throwing the proverbial spanner in the works.  That said, I did manage to find some time this weekend to finish off these rather charming dinosaurs - a brace of Protoceratops.

This rather diminutive pair are from the splendid 'Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company' and fortunately didn't require much in the way of preparation.  I couldn't resist giving them a colourful beak and frill bone, but worried I've made them look a little too friendly.  There are still are few prehistoric beasties stalking around the painting table that need to be completed before one's attention turns towards all things 'Challenge' related', but more on that in due course.

  5. Terrific painting of my fave dinosaur Michael. Top marks and I love the choice of colours. if I'd painted them they'd be light brown with a wash all over :-)

  7. They really look the business!

As to you saying that they may look too friendly ... I'm afraid to say, that on first sight I thought they looked cute and were like those dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park (which it was possible to pet while they were eating).

    1. Thank you Roy and I'm afraid you're might be right, perhaps they've been domesticated by Gunner Lofty.

    1. Thank you Brian, it just seemed a shame to go for the usual brown or green.

  9. Excellent paint job! They do look a little cute and friendly (and fit in very well with the bespectacled fellow). Along the lines of what you said, maybe they could be used as "pets". Maybe give a plus to spotting other dinos in a hunt or other situation?

    1. Good point Mark, after all who would really know what colour they were?

  11. Very cute! Still, I wouldn't want to be between Mummy Protoceratops and her eggs!

    1. A good point Ben, always prudent to adhere to the laws of the jungle, especially a prehistoric one!

    1. Thank you kind Sir, it just seemed a shame to have them in drab colours.

  13. These may be colourful but at full tilt would scare you half way to death.

    Great work on them

    1. Thank you Ian and a good point! I wonder what the top speed of a Protoceratops is/was?

  14. Great work! The colourful palette really does look good. Though they do look maybe a tad bit friendly and cuddly. Maybe the prehistoric equivalent of dogs :)

    1. Thank you Pete, there are so many lovely dinosaur illustrations these days that tend to veer towards more bright colours that it was too good an opportunity to miss.

  16. They are gorgeous! You know you can't wave something like that in front of a man who already has problems in this area! What were you thinking?!? Ah man, this is going to end badly . . .

    1. Thank you Mike and I'm so sorry! If it's any consolation this is entirely your fault as having seen one of your posts on the Compsognathus I ended up heading over to HLBS and spending a small fortune!

    2. I think if either of us do posts about dinosaurs we need to put a health warning at the top of the page :)

At least I can now blame you when the next lot of dinosaurs inevitably ends up on my desk . . .

But seriously, though two look absolutely amazing.

    3. Thank you Mike, great idea although to be honest I don't think either of us needs much persuading when it comes to buying more dinosaurs! :D

    4. We really don't, but it's good to get your excuses in early!

I'm looking forward to hear about your plans for the challenge. Did you think about my offer for a side challenge?

    Cheers

    1. Thank you Stefan, as for the challenge, I left a comment on your post saying that I would be up for pushing each other to enter in all the theme rounds again, did you have something else in mind?

    2. I answered on the comment but wasn't sure whether you noticed the reply.

The only thing I suggest the one of us who doesn't submit a workpiece to each and every bonus round owes a single 28mm figure painted by his own hands to the other?
In case that we both miss one or more unbelievably more rounds we would both be in charge of course.

      What do you think?

      All the best
      Stefan

Fabulous paint job as always, Mr A.
