Rebasing the 42nd!

A quiet weekend here at 'Awdry Towers' saw very little done, hobby wise, apart from the rebasing of these hairy Highlanders!  The last unit that needed to be brought into line with regards to their base size and a surprisingly relaxing process, which proved just the tonic for the unnecessarily stressful cricket match where England narrowly squeaked past New Zealand in yet another rain affected match!

Once again these were from 'Mutineer Miniatures' and the original post detailing my thoughts behind making them a unit from the prestigious 42nd Royal Highlanders can be found here.

With the Highlanders safely housed in the 'Warbases' movement tray (yes, I must make these match the bases!) that should be it for the moment with regards to the rebasing as I can't bring myself to take on the Light Division just yet and anyway there is just far too much frippery awaiting in the painting queue!

  1. Rebasing is a bad chore but the result pays off.

    1. Thank you J.D. the tartan on the kilts was very fiddly, but I was pleased with how it turned out in the end.

Never fun to re-base, been there, done that, will probably do it again... ;)

    Do you switch to 25mm?

    Best regards Michael

    1. Thank you Michael; yes they are now on 25mm metal washers. The whole operation was fairly straightforward as they have integral bases.

    1. Thank you Dean, I think I was nearly cross-eyed by the time I'd finished with the kilts!

  8. They look way better..sort of refreshed.
I´ve just got to the stage with basing the bannockburn lot when a small voice in the back of my head says "why didn´t you go for sabot style basing?" This usually means one of two things.....
    1. I get severly depressed at the "waste" of all those figs stuck to Impetus bases, no longer available to be used in other armies and the Project slows to a grinding halt...and the list of other "more interesting" Projects creeps into view.
    2. I Tell the voice "do you want to base all of them individually!!?"

    1. Thank you Paul, not sure I like the sound of either options although I can sympathise with both - albeit on a much smaller scale.

  9. There's something quite nice about rebasing figures you have already finished sort of like an easy win! Great to see these Highlanders again Michael they are so nicely painted.

    1. Absolutely Mr. Smillie, that is exactly how I feel about these chaps; great to see them on the painting table again.

  10. You're very quick with the rebasing Michael. So you use the movement trays as a sort of storage system?

I will say I attended a cricket match at Cambridge once and to this day I still don't know what the rules are.

    1. Good evening Robert, the movement trays certainly help to keep everything together before placed in plastic boxes in a bid to reduce the amount of dusting I have to do! As for the rules of cricket, perhaps when we have more time!

  14. Great work! I'm not a big fan of the rounded, black rimmed bases so I very much like your redux of these Jocks.
