Here come the Girls!

After what seems like an age, I am delighted to reveal the first members of my 'St. Trinians' zombie hunters!  In order to get the team underway there had to be some serious decision making with regards to uniform, basing and even names.   It seemed the best way to do this was to start with a couple of miniatures that didn't require any conversion and the obvious choices had to be Misty, the Zombie Hunter from 'Crooked Dice' and 'Fantascape's' Zeta the Zombie Slayer.

Both these miniatures were great fun to work with and having decided to go for a 'St. Trinians' look, painted up rather easily; Misty (who is now known as Nikki) causing some concern as I tried to figure out how to paint tights!  Although both great sculpts there is a concern with the scale of the 'Zeta' figure, not to put it too finely, she is a giant of a lady and wielding the style of stick my Grandfather would have been more akin to using.  Still as Hockey Captain, I think I can get away with it!

I knew I wanted to link the girls by something other than just the uniform, if for no other reason than the possible addition of staff members later on that obviously wouldn't be as identifiable by what they were wearing.  In the end I decided to do this with the basing and using some precast floorboards from 'Fenris Games' tried to sell the illusion of the school gymnasium with its confusing array of multicoloured lines.

On the whole, I'm pretty pleased with these tentative first steps and now have to turn my attention to the Fourth Form that are proving a tad unruly on the painting table!

  1. Great work Michael, I would be interested to hear how you paint white? I always find it a challenging bugger to get right.

Re scale between these two figures, I think they look fine together, think of it this way some women are 5 feet tall, and others are 6 foot 2 (and up)

    looks great mate.

  2. Thank you Mr. Smillie that is very kind of you, as for the white, I know exactly what you mean! Because I was using a lot of blue and perhaps to hint at the slightly unruly nature of the girls I went for greys rather than pure white; in the this case the base was 'London Grey', followed by 'Sky Grey' and with a highlight of 'Silver Grey'. Where I did use pure white it was for the sharpest of highlights, prominent creases, collars that sort of thing. I should add that I was using Vallejo Model Colour, hope this helps.

  8. Just brilliant, Michael! If this is just the hockey team, I'm terrified even thinking what the PE teacher will look like.

  15. I honestly don't mind a little variation in height. Seems more realistic to me. I think they look great together and you did a bang-up job on them. I like that basing too!

  16. The "head girll"...very good :-D They look great. I like the Springer Stiefel on the Team captain.
Together they look fine. I wouldn´t have noticed the height difference being an issue, Just looking at the pics and before i read your post, I assumed they were from the same maker and thought "Great!t someone has got wise and deliberately made figs with a height difference within the same set."
The St trins Girls are all different heights and sizes anyway :-D

  24. Nice job, the size difference isn't that much by the looks of it. As for the old school hockey stick have it as her grandma's lucky hockey stick handed down to her.

I've been umming over the zeta figure for a while. Will defo have to pick her up I think.

  25. Hah, very good, but Zeta looks a bit of a masculine sculpt. Makes her scarier though!

  26. You have a perfect selection of zombie hunting school girls here, I recall how violent the girls on the hockey field where in my school. They would be the obvious choice for zombie hunting companions. I love the white of the shirts and your brilliant bases.

  33. 'Head Girl' indeed. In fact Zeta looks like she has a bit too much testosterone flowing through her veins. And is that a faint 5 0'clock shadow I see on her. Perhaps she should be named 'Lola' ;)

  34. ...but gorgeous work as usual, Michael. (I particularly like your idea of the gym-patterned hardwood to tie them together)
