Paintable Saturday#140

Now I promise not to keep banging on about the long summer holidays and just how much hobby time I will have through July, mostly because I have just seen the 'Saintly Mrs. Awdry's' to-do list and it already looks exhausting, if not yet exhaustive!  That said the summer holiday is often a time when I try to catch up with all those larger projects that are left gathering dust during the winter months.  To that end this post is a statement of intent, rather than a prescriptive list and revolves around hosting a game of Witchfinder General, hopefully at the start of August.
I have earmarked a couple of miniatures that have been lurking around the periphery of the paint table for far too long now, particularly these two from the 'Warlord Games' Fire & Brimstone set.  They were supposed to have been an entry for last winter's 'VI Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge' and I even got as far as painting their faces, before the deadline came and went.
What I really want to get done are some terrain pieces to make progress across the the tabletop a little more challenging for the forces of evil.  I have made a start on my wheat field and hope to commence 'Operation Hedgerow' before too long!  Some additional livestock and another Witchfinder, this time in the guise of Salome Kohn from 'Hasslefree Miniatures' should be more than enough to keep me out of mischief.  If I can throw in a couple of games of Zombicide-Black Plague I shall be a happy chap indeed!

  2. Firstly, Regards to the Saintly!

Secondly I am really enjoying this project and look forward to the witch burning good folk rising up in a mod to assault the Fiends Castle.... But why do they always go at night?

    1. Regards passed on and I can only assume that besieging castle with pitchforks and burning torches only seems a good idea after a flagon or two of ale? ;)

  4. A wonderfully teasing WIP post Michael. I'm a big fan of your Witchfinder Project and was especially interested in Salome Kohn, as I'd not spotted that mini before. A future purchase for me no doubt.

  8. Those plans seem quite achievable if you aren't left totally exhausted by the Saintly Mrs Awdry's list of tasks. Enjoy the hols and do take time to refresh yourself ahead of the terrors you'll be facing when they return in September :)

I`m seriously interested in Withcfinder General myself but sadly there is no one in our club who is ready to give it a try with me.

  18. You may wish not to shout about the summer hols, Michael, BUT I WILL! HOORAY! Endless days available for pushing paint and doing some more scratchbuilding. Rewards for the endless marking of exam papers, report writing and being nice to parents. JUSTICE!

  22. I shall be watching with interest, Michael, as :'Black Powder Fantasy' is a genre I love the films for (the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the Brothers Grimm, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Solomon Kate, Sleepy Hollow, etc), but have yet to be tempted into game-wise.
And if you want inexpensive livestock, I think Warbases has a pretty good selection.

    1. Thank you Jez, it is certainly a firm favourite of mine too and it may well be that this collection form the basis for tangents into other related areas - Solomon Kate and the seven dwarves has a ring to it! Warbases are great and I've just picked up a couple more packs of their animals and so hay stacks!

    1. The same thought had crossed my mind, but then all I could think of was our creed, "The Challenge follows the honour system in the completion and entry of figures. Dishonour and public shaming goes (with perhaps the throwing of frozen vegetables) upon anyone who besmirches the venerable craft of painting toy soldiers!" So they have been dusted off and by jolly I will see them done this summer! :D
