Penguin Titan

It's been a rather splendid summer in many ways; I have distracted from my distractions, spending far too long plotting the Batman's downfall at the hands of the Penguin all to the cost of my other projects.  I have caught up with friends and family and even managed a couple of gaming days, but the time has come to dust off the satchel and sharpen the pencils in readiness for the start of the new academic year!

Before I slip back into more pedestrian posting habits there is still time for one more flight of fancy - the Penguin Titan!  Edwin King, over at 'Thoughts of a Depressive Diplomatist' had very kindly alerted me to a new release from 'Fenris Games' - Mutant Penguins!  This were so absurdly wonderful that I immediately ordered up a set and then realised that I hadn't the faintest clue what to do with them!

After much deliberation I picked one and fashioned it to the same style bases that I was using for the rest of the crew, trying to replicate the same colour palette that I had used for the 'Rocket Penguins' - a plan was slowing coming into focus.

The Mutant Penguin did make a brief appearance in our game earlier in the month, where I used him as at Titan Dose marker, but there is something about his pitiful, lumbering shape that makes me want to flesh his role out a bit more, but that will have to wait for another day.  As a farewell 'Hurrah!' to the summer, I have amassed the crew for a final group shot - a rather splendid summer indeed.

  1. Great mini and superb execution of the paint-job. :)

What about using him as a proxy-Titan Thug?

    1. Thank you so much Nate, that is incredibly kind of you, it has been great fun putting them together, but I really should get back to the original plan - if only I can remember what it was.

  4. And don't they just look absolutely spiffing together! That's been a fun collection to watch you put together Lord Michael - Bravo!

However, I think you are still lacking in the actual penguin front - you definitely need a few more of the little feathered blighters :)

  7. WOW! What a gang! BTW: the mutant, I believe, is a little chick at heart trapped in a giant's body. (Well, maybe.)

  8. He's a right big one Michael! I don't think you've spent too much time on this project as it's been a complete success. We've all very much enjoyed it following along with it and seeing such well painted figures.

Hope the new academic year goes well!

    1. Thank you so much Anne, it has been such a blast to put together and I am keen to add a couple more elements to round off the project, but there is so much to do. Witchfinder has been left alone for far too long, then there is all the Victorian era miniatures to paint, plus three Kickstarters heading this way!

  11. Brilliant. Even as an objective marker, it's brilliant.

You now need a golden penguin statue for a loot counter and two penguins doing crosswords as riddle counters. :)

  14. Now that is disturbingly cool. Reminds me of the Batman/Cthulhu crossover "The Doom That Came To Gotham". And your crew, in its entirety, are wonderful. Can't wait for the next post - schoolwork allowing, of course.

    1. Thank you Jez, "The Doom That Came To Gotham", now there's a title, I'll have to look out for that.

    2. It was a 3-part prestige format miniseries, reinterpreting the characters from the batman universe via the Cthulhu Mythos. It was wonderfully bizarre and creepy and unlike some 'crossovers', actually worked. Well worth a read.
      Regards Jez

    1. Thank you so much Edwin, I do, of course, hold you entirely responsible for this one. I need to decide what to do with the others now, I think probably a similar paint job and have them roam in the mean streets of Gotham.

  17. The mutant is a nice piece of lead and without any doubt the icing on the cake for your wonderful Penguin gang. Your work on those figures is simply stunning. It catches the spirit of the comic books perfectly and draws a line from the classic comic book penguin across the 60is interpretation and Tim Burton's version of the dwarvish villain right to the modern incarnation of Oswald Copplepot in the recent video games with inspired the BMG range. Chapeau, Sir Michael!

You should cover this project in one of the coming WBQ issues.

    Cheers
    Stefan

    1. As always I am touched by your kind words Stefan, I think what I have most enjoyed about this project is that it has allowed me to indulge in flights of fancy without the worry of time or purpose. If I thought of something, I could have a go at making it - just what I needed to keep the creative juices flowing.

    2. Only my humble but truly honest view. I'm completely with you concerning the creative possibilities with such a project and the completed crew shows how willingly you used it. I hope to cast an eye on those face to face some day.

Great photo at the end. It showcases one of your many talents which I admire. The ability to create a colour scheme that makes the minis greater than the sum of their parts.
