It was a simply task to match the colour palette from my earlier ventures, but I have to confess that I found the blending a little harder on these due to their size. I resisted the temptation to slather he Ghoul Hag’s ‘victim’ in gore, feeling that it looked chilling enough as it was. As for the Ghoul child, I took inspiration from the quizzical way he is examining the head in his hands and added a couple of skulls to his base by way of a collection.
All sorts of possible scenarios present themselves with this pair, not least of course a missing child from the village! Can the Witchfinders track down the helpless child in time?
Looking great.. always loved these Ghoul sculpts!
ReplyDeleteThank you and I couldn't agree more, great fun to work on but a little fiddly.
DeleteVery nice work Michael. Those blue-grey skin tones are perfect
ReplyDeleteThank you Roy, I had thought they were a little two blue, but they seem t hold quite nicely as a group.
DeleteFabulous work Sir Michael :)
ReplyDeleteToo kind Tamsin, thank you.
DeleteThese are very, very, creepy, mostly I'm guessing because of your superb brushwork on them.
ReplyDeleteThey really are creepy, but all the more fun to work with as a result.
DeleteExcellent brushwork Mr Awdry!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rodger, that is very kind of you.
DeleteFantastic paint job on some frankly quite stunning sculpts! I'm half tempted to pick up another set now!
ReplyDeleteHeresy really do have some wonderful things to paint.
DeleteIt's the colour palette I really like on those ghouls. Wonderful work on those figures, Sir!
ReplyDeleteBut I agree with you the pair is disturbing. Especially the hag with the baby victim isn't my cup of tea. Call me touchy but with two little daughter and don't appreciate a baby murdering ghoul in my miniature collection.
Cheers
Stefan
Thank you Stefan and I know what you mean, certainly bordering on bad taste and one of the reasons that I didn't cover the baby in gore.
DeleteThese two figures looks really awful.Great job with the paintbrush Michael!
ReplyDeleteThank you, they are certainly difficult subjects but work well with the Witchfinder setting.
DeleteLovely work Michael. These are very interesting figures, which caught my eye a while back. The ghoul holding the child is an unusual subject. Which I must bit I always found disturbing, and I've seen many real disturbing incidents in my life. The figure always made me think of Gollum, being described in LotR as stealing into houses and taking babies from cribs.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, I don't think that they would normally have been on my shopping list, but I suddenly felt the need to have one of all the wonderful sculpts.
DeleteWonderful job on these creepy minis!
ReplyDeleteThank you Luca, they certainly are creepy.
DeleteThey are suitably vile. Perfect for any horror wargaming or roleplaying.
ReplyDeleteThank you Clint, hopefully they will meet their match against the Witchfinders.
DeleteGreat job, Michael.
ReplyDeleteI've only ever seen the ghoul hag painted in such a way that the child is clearly dead. The thought that it's being kept alive for some purpose (as bait? the last vestiges of maternal instinct?) is even more unsettling.
Thank you Mr. Finch, I just couldn't bring myself to cover the baby in gore, I just hope the Witchfinders get to it in time.
DeleteThey looks soo grim and deadly great paintjob sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you, not the easiest subject to paint.
DeleteBrilliant if a little disturbing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gordon and not just a little disturbing, right out there on the disgusting front!
DeleteTerrifically disturbing stuff... Though I can't believe you dare accuse me of leaping about from genre to genre, Michael "pot calling kettle black" Awdry ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you and I am afraid you are of course completely correct, guilty as charged Sir! ;)
DeleteBrillant work Sir Michael .
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Vincent.
DeleteAnother great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
DeleteImpressive brushwork again, Michael. I should think it harder to get the colors of ghouls ring than living folk - and you've nailed it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dean, I was worried that they were a bit too blue, but they seem to have worked.
DeleteLovely/icky = excellent. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteDisgusting figures!! And brilliant work, really excellent!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Phil.
DeleteSomething really unsettling about those two, so good job I guess! :S
ReplyDeleteThey are a bit close to the knuckle, but thank you for the kind words Mike.
DeleteExcellent work on these! Great sculpts, slightly appalling, but excellent nevertheless :)
ReplyDeleteThank you and you are absolutely right in that they are appalling.
DeleteThat ghoul with the baby is indeed disturbing Michael. Well done on them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Terry, certainly the stuff of nightmares.
DeleteVery nice Michael the one holding the baby is certainly chilling looking!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, not the easiest thing that I've painted from the point of view of subject matter.
DeleteHorrendous!! - in the best sense of the term ;) Congratulations on a fantastic job! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThank you, they certainly are a tad disturbing.
DeleteWonderfully horrible. Or horribly wonderful. Or perhaps both!
ReplyDeleteI think you might be right and thank you.
DeleteTerrific painting Sir M, love the horrid flesh colour....yuk!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray, clammy cold blue certainly seems to add a chill to the miniatures.
DeleteHola
ReplyDeleteInteresantes minis,......a un que dan un poco de yuyu jajaja.
un saludo
Thank you J.D.
DeleteNow, that's scary! Fabulous painting nonetheless. The blueish skin tone is spot on.
