Warlord Games Clubmen

I've made mention in the past at just how frustrating I found these 'Warlord Games' Clubmen as the miniatures themselves are horrible to prepare. So much flash and so many mould lines, especially in what is a relatively new line of models. Still, a saving grace is the character that they manage to squeeze into them and when painted they do really look rather good.  With regards to painting, I need to add at this point that I have been hugely influenced by the tremendous work of 'Stone Cold Lead' in fact much of the colour palate that you see here is lifted directly from his versions, they really are sublime.

What I hadn't realised when assembling the team was just how many follicly challenged men were in the club! For the life of me, I can't remember if the pack came with alternative headwear or if you had to buy these as an optional extra from 'Warlord Games'* but not to worry, especially given that I sport a similar hairstyle!

*I suspect the latter

With the addition of these chaps, particularly those with muskets the band is starting to take shape, but how will there fare against the denizens of the night? Stand and fight or flee in terror?

    1. Thank you Ian, you are of course spot on in that the more effort you put into something the richer the reward.

  3. They look great as always, Michael. I wouldn't have suspected of the flash/prep-work from your finished work.

    1. That is very kind of you to say so Dean, but they really were a pig to prepare.

  4. Still, they look great - had some trouble with flash on my Warlord/Pro Gloria Landsknechts myself. You can always cure (the figures', in any case) baldness with hats made from GS and paper.

  12. Lovely brushwork sir! Frustrating they might be but when you compare them anatomically to the Redoubt ones i.e. front left they really shine.

    1. Thank you Millsy, but as you know I still have a soft spot for the chunky Redoubt sculpts.

  14. Excellent work, Michael. The gent picking his nose is a hoot. The village idiot with a matchlock.

    1. Thank you Mr. Finch, the sculpts certainly make up for the shoddy casting.

  15. Hair Clubmen? The one with the finger jammed up his nose must be their "I'm not just a member, but also the president". ha

    Nice paintwork as usual!

  16. Cracking stuff! Warlord seems to have some pretty bad casts in their line. Those definately aren't the only ones with horrible amounts of cleaning required. At least in their WW2 minis some "new" packs are actually just rereleased sets of very old sculpts and moulds so that might explain it.

    1. Thank you and I hadn't really picked up on the fact that warlord were quietly picking up different ranges and e-releasing them, certainly makes sense with regards to the casting.

  17. I'm sorry to hear that preparing those figures was such a pain. Lately I had similar problems with some Perry casts from older ranges.
But nevertheless the result is wonderful and your efforts were really worth it.

    1. I've certainly had similar problems with the Perry Miniatures, but as you say they are certainly worth the effort and to be fair so were these.

  19. Great Job Michael, you are not the only one having been cursed by the excess flash on Warlord, but as you say they do paint up well.

  23. A great colour scheme yet again. For what it's worth, any victim of the mob above can rejoice in having their spirits lifted by the beautiful hues before having their guts ripped out in agony. ;)

Thanks too for the reference to another good painting blog.
