An 'ickle' battery

Whilst I was waiting to get my eager hands on the required miniatures for the first encounter in my ‘Witchfinder General’ rule book, I took the opportunity to delve into the wondrous assortment of English Civil War miniatures generously donated to the cause by the ‘Provost Marshal’.

With a myriad of possibilities, fate smiled on this small artillery piece from ‘Redoubt Enterprises’.  The gun on its wheeled carriage was relatively straightforward to paint and once again I was able to have a bit of freedom with the palette for the crew of three.

Although some way off requiring artillery for any of the encounters in the rule book, I found this little group hard to resist, hence its promotion to the head of the queue.  In my naivety, I am probably making a terrible faux pas by basing the group on a ‘Warbases’ 100mm x 50mm MDF stand,  but I just like the way they look and the fact that it keep the all neat and tidy!

    1. Thank you Stefan, I did receive your message and I though I had replied, but Google+ still seems to be getting the better of me, off now to investigate where I have sent it!

  4. I always shy away from ECW Period stuff. Don't know why I just do! But this looks really fab and maybe I should forget my prejudice. I can see that this would be great for witch finder general.

    1. I know exactly what you mean Clint, if it wasn't for the Witchfinder rules, I don't think I would have touched it - probably a lack of knowledge on my behalf.

  5. Superb painting on both figures and gun Michael, with a good choice of colours that really fit the bill.

  6. Very nice...especially the "galloper" gun.

    1. Once again my ignorance of the period shines through! A 'galloper' you say, I assume because of its small frame it could be manoeuvred quickly around the field of battle, hence galloper?

I really love Redoubt for Some periods and this is another fine example of their range. You have done it great justice!

    1. Thank you, I must confess that I really enjoy the 'chunky' feel that Redoubt have, but they don't necessarily fit as well as I would have liked with the other ranges.

  27. Nicely done Michael. Now theres a thought! A bucket of silverware getting ready to be used as grapeshot, yes I saw this on the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter & it worked wonders there.

  28. Wonderful work on these - Pike & Shot is one period I've not gotten into yet. The closest would be my Empire guys, but that's another story. That all said, your fine work makes the period look enticing. Best, Dean

"Brushwood for burning Witches ? ... Check !
    Guns ?..... Check !
Stakes and silver bullets just in case ? ... Check !
    Crossbows ?.... Check !
I'm sure we still need something else ..."

  32. Lovely work indeed, as is to be expected, Mr. Awdry! I have some good/bad news for you... and please don't hold it against me: I've awarded you a LIEBSTER, which I know you had received in the past, and just learned you received very recently. Please feel no pressure to officially "Accept" it again. Whether you or not you manage that, your blog is so richly well-deserving of cudos and accolades, and as one of my own all-time personal favorite destinations in the blogosphere, I just wouldn't feel right if I hadn't given one of my Liebsters to you.

    Forgive me, brother Awdry!

    1. No forgiveness required my good man, as there can be no greater accolade than to receive praise from one's peers especially if you hold that person in such high regard, and you Sir are most certainly held in high regard - thank you.
